Update Vintage Story Server Settings

Editing your Vintage Story server's configuration files allows you to customize your server further than you can using in-game commands. There are multiple ways to alter settings, which are detailed below.

Startup Parameters overwrite server config

Settings configured in the startup parameters will always override the same settings in your server files. To prevent conflicts, only configure these options on the startup parameters page, not in the server files. A list of startup parameters can be found here.

Changing settings via File Manager

To start, locate your server's config files in the Game Control Panel. You can access your server's File Manager under Management > File Manager. Then, locate the "Quick Access" panel on the right, and click serverconfig.json. This should open the file editor. Most settings for your server can be edited here. We recommend this method as all settings are available to be edited, whereas other methods are limited in which settings can be edited.

Once you're in the file, you can press CTRL+F on your keyboard to search the file for the setting you wish to edit. You can find a full list of Vintage Story server settings on their Vintage Story wiki.

As noted above, certain settings must be adjusted on the startup parameters page under Configuration > Startup Parameters, as setting them in the server files will cause the value to be reverted to whatever is set in the startup parameter.

Changing settings via Startup Parameters

Settings that are defined directly in the server's startup command can be edited in the Game Control Panel under Configuration > Startup Parameters. You can find a list of those settings and their details here.

Changing settings via in-game/console Commands

Some settings are able to be edited through commands. These are primarily limited to world-related settings. The /worldconfig command allows you to alter world configuration settings. As these commands vary greatly in syntax depending which setting you're editing, we recommend reviewing the Vintage Story World Configuration article on their World Configuration wiki article. The /player command allows you to edit a specific player's data, privileges, and more. These commands can be found on their List of Server Commands/Player wiki article.
